Current-generation Ram 1500 built on the DT platform at SHAP. Elevated NVH and refinement standards, coil-spring rear suspension option, air suspension option, more integrated electrical architecture, and expanded trim range including luxury Limited and Longhorn variants.
Ram 1500 Classic (DS Platform) at Warren Truck
Previous-generation Ram 1500 built on the DS platform at WTAP, continuing production alongside the current DT variant. Positioned as value and fleet-oriented alternative. Simpler electrical architecture, leaf-spring rear suspension standard, and commercial-oriented trim mix.
PPAP Differences
1. Platform-Specific Control Plans
Even for shared component part numbers, DT and DS platform applications typically require separate control plans reflecting different mounting geometry, integration points, and inspection criteria. Suppliers submitting one control plan for both platforms miss this on Stellantis SQA review.
2. Boundary Sample Documentation
DT and DS boundary samples are documented separately. Even for the same component, boundary sample acceptance criteria differ between Sterling Heights and Warren Truck applications. Suppliers assuming boundary samples cover both platforms typically face second-submission rejections.
3. Trim-Level Considerations
DT platform includes luxury Limited and Longhorn trims with elevated interior fit and finish expectations. DS Classic trim mix is commercial-oriented. Interior suppliers face different subjective scoring standards across the two platforms.
4. Electrical Architecture
DT platform electrical harness architecture is more integrated with expanded connectivity and driver-assistance systems. DS platform electrical architecture is simpler. Suppliers of electrical, sensor, and infotainment components face different qualification requirements.
Coordination Across Both Plants
Suppliers shipping to both Sterling Heights and Warren Truck often maintain separate PPAP packages for each platform, coordinated through a shared Ram program manager.
